Cadets Green "Push"

Army Cadets from Newport  joined others across Wales in a mass planting of woodland and hedging trees on  Saturday 6th March. The event was a part of the celebration of "Cadet 150" - the 150th anniversary of the formation of the cadet movement in the UK.

Local cadets with the help Countryside Wardens from Newport City Council  planted 1250 trees at the Gaer,  and 250 at Tredegar House. Simultaneously other cadets from Gwent and Powys Army Cadet Force and the Air Training Corps planted  around 1000  more at sites in Llanwrthwl near Llandrindod Wells and at Priory School in Brecon.

Across the rest of Wales youngsters were also busy creating new woodlands and replacing trees lost in recent years.  In total over 3500 trees were planted, and further events are planned for the autumn.
