Nine CVQO Duke of Westminster Award finalists set off on Friday for Johannesburg from Terminal One Heathrow Airport at the start of their three week South African expedition. It was the ultimate prize for the lucky nine, after they participated in a series of challenging selection processes. 350 nominations were made late last year, with all nominees enrolled on a qualification with CVQO.
“This year was particularly tough in choosing our prize winners, due to such high standards at the selection event. However, the cadets today have consistently demonstrated an exceptional contribution to society and to cadets,” commented Edward Woods, Chief Executive of CVQO and head of the selection panel. “Each and every one of them is a credit to their family and their unit, and I offer them my congratulations.”
The Duke of Westminster Award is an annual prize that has been created by CVQO to recognise the most outstanding cadet. This year's winner came from the Army Cadet Force, and was Cadet Under Officer Rachel Tresman. To be considered, cadets must possess a wide range of skills and abilities and have demonstrated these attributes through a consistently high level of commitment and achievement throughout their cadet career. Cadets are nominated by their unit headquarters and must be enrolled in CVQO’s BTEC Programme in order to be eligible for the award.
