Message from the Commandant

2010 promises to be one of the most memorable years in the history of Cadet Forces throughout the United Kingdom. It's our 150th birthday and we plan to celebrate it in style. Celebrations include all four Cadet Forces representing some 130,000 cadets and their 25,000 adult volunteers, will be involved in celebrating a century and a half of achievements and success.
“Cadet150” will be marked at all levels of the Cadet Forces with a programme of activities designed to celebrate and promote the success and value of the Cadet movement throughout communities in every corner of the UK during the year. I sincerely hope that cadets from Derbyshire ACF will have the opportunity to join in with some of the National events listed below which will include:
- A Royal Review in central London followed by a reception at Buckingham Palace
- A unique sports day at RAF Cranwell with cadets from all four Forces competing alongside one another
- The ACF, ATC and the CCF sending platoons to the Sea Cadets' annual Trafalgar Day Parade for the first time in its history
- Cadets planting 150,000 trees supplied by the Woodland Trust
- A national First Aid Competition, hosted by Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.
Derbyshire ACF will also be holding its own Cadet150 Celebration on Saturday the 26 June 2010 when we will be holding our Cadet150 Open Day in Derby City Centre. This day includes displays and activities in the market place, an evening reception for our guests from around the County and beyond and concluding with a spectacular concert in the Great Hall of the Assembly Rooms.
This day will also include Cadets from the Combined Cadet Force, Sea Cadets and the Air Training Corps.
Other events include an Expedition to Nepal to visit trek and climb in the Khumbu Region of the Himalayas including visiting Everest Base Camp. Two of our cadets will have the special opportunity of climbing a mountain called Island Peak. The 3 week expedition will conclude with a charity project at an orphanage near Kathmandu.
There are other events being planned for in some of the major town centres in Derbyshire and I will keep you updated of these as the details emerge.
Derbyshire ACF is thriving with over 850 Cadets in 32 locations around the County. Cadet150 can only further assist in getting the message out to the community that Derbyshire ACF is the Counties best kept secret.
Take every opportunity to spread the word and lets make this year memorable and fun.

Want recognition for your successes? No problem. The ACF gives you just that with six increasingly challenging levels of Cadet Star Training for you to move up the ranks of. Your 6 star awards will ensure you've got what it takes in subjects like shooting, fieldcraft, map & compass, drill, community work and expeditions!
The system means you will learn more about each subject as you progress through your star awards and you'll get plenty of opportunity to practice your new found skills in realistic environments!
The ultimate achievement is to reach Master Cadet level. There are only a handful in the country and they are the cream of the crop. Have you got what it takes?
The Young People Of Today Are Citizens Of Tomorrow
The Army Cadet Force (ACF) with its many and varied activities of military, adventurous and citizenship training, together with the BTEC First Diploma in Public Services, offers its cadets great opportunities to acquire transferable skills that will enhance them in any future career, whether it be military or civilian.
Cadets follow a progressive training programme which runs in tandem with the Duke of Edinburgh's Award and as each cadet progresses through the system they take on additional responsibilities, earn promotion and grow in confidence.
Although there is often criticism of the youth of today, we believe that with direction and supervision their positive attitudes can be correctly developed to the benefit of society and the individual.
