Key Information and Contacts
Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force Headquarters is located in Lincoln At Sobraon Barracks,Burton Road,Lincoln,LN1 3PY
The barracks and parade ground at Burton Road was opened in 1878 and is still in military use. They initially served as the depot for the first and second battalions of the Lincolnshire Regiment (10th Foot), and for the Royal North Lincolnshire Militia. All of the structures at the barracks were brick-built and designed in a similar castellated style to the earlier barracks on Burton Road.
The barracks was comprised of a main ‘keep’ building, with officers’ quarters located adjacent to the parade ground. A hospital, laundry and quarters for married men were located on the north side of the parade ground. A substantial perimeter wall with bastions at each corner enclosed the whole complex. The barracks soon became known as the Sobraon Barracks, in reference to the Lincolnshire Regiment’s action at the Battle of Sobraon (northern India) in 1846; this being the decisive battle of the Anglo-Sikh Wars. The barracks are still in military use as an Army Reserve centre, with parts of the original ‘keep’ building and perimeter wall still surviving, though significant changes to the layout have occurred with newer structures added and much of the older structures removed.
Lincolnshire Army Cadet Force is home to over 750 Cadets and 150 adult volunteers, in 28 detachments including a band, covering Lincolnshire as far North as Caistor. The County is divided into 4 areas, with our Band embedded in 1 Company.
- One Company (1 Coy) is headquartered in the City of Lincoln with nine detachments located in and around the city of Lincoln.
- Two Squadron (2 Sqn) is headquartered at Sleaford Detachment with seven detachments located in the south of the County from Sleaford and Grantham down to Market Deeping.
- Three Company (3 Coy) is headquartered at Boston Detachment with six detachments located across the east of the county, around the fens and across to the coast.
- Four Company (4 Coy) is headquartered at Louth Detachment with six detachments located in and around the Lincolnshire Wolds, and Gainsborough.
