The Eastern Region 7-a-Side Rugby Championships will be held at John Cleveland College, Butt Lane, Hinckley, Leicester, on Sunday March 22nd 2009.

Previous Results

The Eastern Region Sevens Rugby Competition was held at The John Cleveland College, Hinckley, Leicestershire on Sun 9th March 2008.

Teams were entered from:

• Derby ACF.
• Essex ACF
• Lincs ACF.
• LNR ACF.
• Norfolk ACF
• Nottingham ACF

Two teams were entered per county:

Senior Team: 16 Years or over and under 18 on the 1st Sep in the current season
Junior Team: 14 years but under 16 on the 1st Sep in the current season.

Traning Day:

On Saturday 8th March, a training session was held for cadets around the County to attend on the sports field at Chetwynd Barracks.

The session was led by Leicester Tigers coach Matt Williams, who we all agreed, did a fantastic job at both basic skills coaching, and getting the two teams to bond.

We had 10 seniors and 8 juniors attend which was enough for us to be able to enter both teams into the sevens competition the next day.

Competition Day:

On Sunday we headed down to the John Cleveland College in Hinckley, Leicestershire where 6 counties entered the tournament: Essex, Lincs, LNR (boo), Notts, Norfolk and Derbyshire

Our juniors came away with the wooden spoon I'm afraid, not winning (we don't say losing) any matches at all. Although we did score a tremendous try against tournament champions - Derbyshire.

Derbyshire Juniors fielded a cracking side, won all their games however LNR came away with the trophy......??

In the Senior section our boys did amazingly well for a County that hasn't worn their rugby kit for at least 4 years!!! We drew against Norfolk, beat Derbyshire & Essex however just lost out to LNR with a final score of 10-24.

Norfolk and LNR went into the final, just pipping Notts to the post with a higher number of tries throughout the tournament. LNR Seniors also took away their trophy.

Despite not coming away with any medals, it was a great weekend had by all and all I can say is LNR - watch your backs for next year..... we'll be the red and grey blurs!

Huge thanks go to Smiler & Sgt Storer for driving us there and negotiating the tricky junction closure on the M69 which meant we drove about 40 miles more than we needed to!

National Sevens Rugby Event:

Two members of Notts ACF were selected to represent the Eastern Region in the National event, they were Cpl C Duggan - D Squadron and Bdr M Johnson - C Battery. These will be held on 29th March at Sennybridge Camp in Brecon, Wales.

Congratulations to both of them.
