Cadets Q&A

Click on a question to see the answer

  • How long have you been a cadet?

I've been in the ACF as an adult for 5 years, but I was also a cadet for 4 years before that.
  • What did you enjoy most about annual camp last year?

We got to ride in a helicopter. It was a Chinook which is enormous and noisy, but it was really good fun. I'd love to have another go.
  • What did you enjoy least about last annual camp?

Probably the early mornings! We get up about 6.30 am, get showered and dressed, then clean up our rooms because they get inspected. Our sergeant told me that early mornings are character building but I don't believe him.
  • What's the food like at camp?

It's quite good. You get quite a lot of choice so I can always find something I like.
  • What's your favourite subject in the Army Cadet Force?

I reckon that would have to be shooting. I'd never shot before I joined cadets so I surprised myself when I had my first bit of coaching from an instructor and was quite good. I'm now in my county shooting team and will be competing in a competition against all the other counties next month.
  • What do your friends think of you being in the cadets?

They're not bothered! Two of them have joined because of all the stories I was telling them about what I do in cadets. I'm working on the rest of them but the may or may not join.
