Spent this evening preparing for Remembrance Sunday. Every year we march with the veterans and other organisations from our local war memorial to the church, then back again. We spent the night practicing, ensuring uniforms fitted correctly and boots shone.
The day went perfectly. The cadets and the weather were on their best behaviour. I'm always proud of my cadets, but today really brought a lump to my throat. Every one of them put in 110%. It's amazing to see how much respect the cadets have for the veterans and to see the joy the veterans gain from chatting to the cadets.
As a reward I decided to run a relaxed night tonight. The cadets came to the detachment in civilian clothes and we laid on snacks and drinks for them and played a few games. They let their hair down a bit and I saw some different personalities.
