Thursday evening (24th July ) at Douay Martyrs School Army Cadet Unit was a special evening for all when the cadets received formal permission from the Life Guards for the cadets to wear the cap badge of the Life Guards and be sponsored by them - an unusual honour.
Fourteen cadets gathered at the school unit to receive a visit from Colonel Dale of the Life Guards , our Commandant and Senior Sector and Group staff for the badging ceremony.
The unit, officially known as 198 Douay Martyrs School Detachment (Life Guards), was started at the request of the Head teacher and governors in May 2007. It has grown in cadet numbers and in trophies taken at Sports and other competitions .
The detachment is made up of boys and girls who attend the school, and meets after school on a Thursday evening. "The unit has really blossomed and developed - I'm very proud of their achievements", says Corporal of Horse Gary Gough" - adult leader at the detachment. " This year we will have eighteen teenage cadets from the school going to our annual camp at Wathgill near Catterick - they are all looking forward to it."
