CADET EXECUTIVE OFFICER
WEST LOWLAND BATTALION, ACF
1. Applications are invited for the post of Cadet Executive Officer with the West Lowland Battalion, Army Cadet Force based at Ayr. The current incumbent retires in mid August 2008.
2. Applicants are required to meet the criteria for commissioning in the ACF - see para 4 below - as laid down in ACF Manual, Chapter 4, Part 2. The starting salary is £28,846 (all hours worked). A pay increase is currently under negotiation. Starting pay above the band minimum may be awarded when merited by exceptionally relevant qualifications. The salary quoted includes an addition for working unsocial hours and for hours worked in excess of standard hours. Annual leave, excluding public holidays, is 25 days per annum rising to 30 days after 5 years service. Previous service in the public sector will count towards qualifying years' service. There is a Pension Scheme, which is open to personnel aged between 18 and 56, for which there is a personal contribution of 5%. To offset the Pension Contribution there is a 6% Non Pensionable Addition to salary.
3. Applicants must have served as a Commissioned Officer or Warrant Officer in the UK Armed Forces and should:
a. Have a sound knowledge of British Army procedures.
b. Be familiar with all aspects of military accounts and be capable of running non-public funds.
c. Have a sound administrative background with the ability to liaise and deal smoothly with civilians, community and local authority organizations, military headquarters and adult volunteer instructors on behalf of the Battalion Commandant.
Be conversant with service staff work to facilitate dealing with military headquarters at various levels.
Have the ability to lead, motivate and administer subordinate staff and to promote the aims of the Army Cadet Force, on behalf of Lowland RFCA, through the direction of the Battalion Commandant.
4. The successful applicant, as a condition of employment, will be required to join the Army Cadet Force and will be appointed to the paid rank of Major. He/she will receive the appropriate rate of pay for a full day's training carried out up to a maximum of 28 days pay each year, in addition to the salary quoted above.
5. The successful candidate will also be required to be security cleared prior to appointment; this will include an Enhanced Disclosure from the Scottish Criminal Records Bureau (SCRB). The appointment is for an initial probationary period of six months, continuing as a permanent position thereafter.
