Colonel John S Wilson OBE DL

 

John has been in the ACF for thirty seven years.  After 5 years as a cadet, he joined Derbyshire ACF as an instructor in 1971 and was commissioned in 1976 at which time he was appointed as a Detachment Commander, a post he held for 9 years. He held numerous other key positions in Derbyshire including Coy Commander, County D of E Officer, County Shooting Officer, County Training Officer and Deputy Commandant. He was County Commandant for 6 years finishing in 2007. He is currently Chairman of Army Cadet Force Association Shooting Committee, Chairman of the Overseas Matches Committee of the Council for Cadet Rifle Shooting and a member of the ACF Training Committee.

In ‘civvy street' John had a 36 year career in the coal mining industry as a mining surveyor and subsidence engineer working for the National Coal Board, the British Coal Corporation and then as a consulting engineer dealing with mining subsidence and associated surface damage issues. In 2002 he left the mining industry to work for the Ministry of Defence on the SaBRE Campaign, supporting members of the Reserve Forces and their employers. He is the Regional SaBRE Campaign Director for the East Midlands within the RFCA.
