Twenty-one cadets took part in a sponsored cycle ride on exercise bikes, between them cycling non-stop for 48 hours. They covered almost 2000 miles and raised over £4000 for the charity. The cadets were rightly pleased with their efforts, as their original target had been 1000 miles and they surpassed their fund-raising target - all thanks to typical cadet enthusiasm and team spirit. "We were put into squads of four doing two-hour shifts, half-an-hour each. After my second shift I started to become slightly obsessed with the cycling and if there were any slots open I would snatch them quickly!" said Cadet Jodie Jeffery, who finished up covering the most individual mileage during the event.
The organiser, Sherborne Detachment Commander Colour Serjeant Instructor Kevin Matthews, was very impressed with the effort put in. "I am enormously proud of all who took part and their willingness to rise to this challenge in the way they did. They are all fabulous ambassadors not only for the ACF and their school, but also their peer group as a whole," he said. Commandant of Dorset ACF, Colonel Andrew Edwards, thanked the cadets for their hard work and the money raised for Help for Heroes. "I would like to record my appreciation of the considerable efforts of the Sherborne Detachment in raising £4000" he said. "This is just the sort of commitment, determination, teamwork and thought for others that is the hallmark of Dorset ACF - long may it continue. The recipients of the detachment's hard work will be grateful. The money will make a huge difference."
