Presentations all round for the Tonbridge Detachment of the Kent Army Cadet Force

Last night saw young people from Tonbridge Army Cadets rewarded for their efforts with a generous donation of new IT equipment and a plaque from Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council. The evening also saw many young people awarded their star badges and two others received promotions!

David Hughes, Chief Executive of Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council, attended the parade night and saw first hand what the young people get up to. He spoke with many of the young people and was delighted with the enthusiasm of both the cadets and adult instructors alike, he said:

"I really have enjoyed this evening. It is great to experience first-hand the opportunities provided here for young people and see them doing things they wouldn't normally get the chance to do. The cadets are a credit to the training they have received and to the adults that give up their time to train them."

The Council very generously donated a laptop, projector and screen which will help enormously with training. The cadets are part of the Princess of Wales Royal Regiment (PWRR) which was granted Freedom of the Borough by the Borough Council many years ago.  The PWRR cap badge is displayed in the Mayor's Parlour and, as a gesture of mutual respect, Mr Hughes also presented the cadets with a plaque bearing the Council's Coat of Arms.

The evening also saw Cadet Lance Corporal Charlie Cunningham-Hoult, (15), presented with her Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award, her 2 Star badge and she also got promoted from Lance Corporal to Corporal!

Cadet Alex Nye, (15), was promoted to Lance Corporal - many other cadets also received their basic badges, well done to all!

Sergeant John Dwyer, Detachment Commander for Tonbridge said:

I cannot thank the Borough Council enough for their support tonight, I am so proud of all the young people and adults that are here giving up their time to learn and become better citizens and to get a donation like this makes it all worthwhile. I am always looking for more adult instructors and cadets alike please feel free to pop along and take a look at what goes on, we parade on Mondays and Wednesdays between 7.30-9.30pm in Hectorage Road".
